What Now?

Given the turn of events over the past two weeks, I wanted to provide an update.

Our "previous" agency gave us two options. They offered to put our file on hold for two years or return our paperwork and initial fees, thus "severing our relationship with the agency" (their words). In the interest of forward progress, we accepted the latter offer because if we remain on hold we are not free to pursue other adoption options. As of Tuesday, we are officially free to move on, and the stack of papers we had been so diligently working on is now sitting on the counter.

Before selecting our previous agency we also talked to two others. This week we are returning to one of those agencies to revisit the possibility of working with them. We'd like to better understand their program and see if they will work with us. Truth be told, we are concerned that our recent experience will also taint this new agency's impression of us. The fact the we were recently working with another agency will come up (its a question on the paperwork), so we'd like to find a way to "clear the air" with the new agency without giving them a list of reasons to be skeptical. Our approach to this conversation is in work.

In general, we plan to start by talking to this new agency next week while we are also learning about other agencies and approaches.

We'd like to thank our family and friends for being so incredibly supportive. Your phone calls, comments, prayers, pep talks, and recommendations for people we can talk to about adoption experiences have really helped us hold on to the courage to move forward. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
