Right now there is a tax credit available to families whose
adoptions have been finalized. The fees associated with the adoption process
are well spent. Expectant families
receive counseling to help them consider all their options, parenting
included. This support system is offered
through the adoption process and beyond, if that is that path they choose. The agency also prepares and guides the
adoptive families, facilitates the matching process, makes sure that the
process goes as smoothly as possible, and offers more support if it doesn't. However, these costs do add up. It is all 100% worth it but this tax credit is
a TREMENDOUS help!
If Congress does not
act, the Adoption Tax Credit will expire on December 31, 2012, increasing the
cost for qualifying families pursuing adoption through domestic private, foster care, and
international programs. (adoptiontaxcredit.org)
Today I called our congressional representative and
expressed the importance of this tax credit to our family, asking for his
support as well. It took less than 5
minutes, I provided my name, address, and shared my support of the bipartisan
bill H.R. 4373, the Making Adoption Affordable Act.
If you have the desire and can make the time, please help us
and all adoptive families by leaving a similar message for your congressional
representative. Every call makes such a
difference because in their eyes it represents many people who feel the same
way.
Here are the instructions the agency sent us:

Message:
· I urge the Representative to become a co-sponsor of H.R. 4373, The Making Adoption Affordable Act.
· If Congress does not act_the credit as we now know it_will expire in December 2012.
· H.R. 4373 is bipartisan and it supports all types of adoptions (domestic private, foster care, and international).
· This tax credit has made adoption a more viable option for many parents who might not otherwise have been able to afford adoption, allowing them to provide children with loving, permanent families.
· Thank you for your support of H.R. 4373.
Thank you so much for your
continued support.
